On-campus interviewing is a free service provided to employers
interested in recruiting students for internships or full-time,
professional positions following graduation. Interviews occur for
approximately six weeks every Fall and Spring. Contact the Employer Services and
Development assistant at 412-648-7129 to schedule a recruitment
date. Employers can utilize more than one recruitment suite for
their on-campus interviews.
On-Campus Interviewing Process
1. Announce Your Employment Opportunity
Call Career Services to reserve your interviewing date(s). You
will be asked to specify a contact person, recruiting date, number
of schedules, length of interview times (i.e., 30 minute, 45 minute,
etc.), and whether or not you will be holding an information session.
In addition, we request that you inform us of the majors and job
positions for which you will be recruiting (you can reserve dates
without this information, but it is important to contact Career
Services as soon as you know so that we may post the jobs and
attach the interview schedules to them). You will receive a confirmation
e-mail with your interview details, and attached will be the Non-Discrimination
Policy which must be signed and returned to us before your interviewing
date.
* Make sure your company and personal information is updated and
accurate in FutureLinks.*
2. Review Candidate Resumes
Once your jobs and their corresponding schedules have been posted,
students can begin submitting resumes to you. You can view (via
FutureLinks) candidate resumes approximately three weeks prior
to your interview date. Please pre-select candidates plus alternate
selections two weeks prior to your interview date (see your specific
deadline below). Please bring candidate resumes with you to the
interviews (Blue & Gold members will have resumes provided
for them. For more information on Blue & Gold services, please
see Increase Your Visibility On Campus). All candidates must receive
a decision (accepted, alternate or declined) by your assigned
deadline. Any employer who leaves candidates with no decision
when the schedule opens (seven days prior to your interview date)
will have their recruiting dates postponed until all decisions
are made and candidates are notified to have the appropriate time
to schedule their interviews.
3. Confirm Your Schedules
Please mark your calendar to check FutureLinks two days prior
to your visit to make sure your schedule is correct. If you have
any questions, please call us at 412-648-7129.
Pre-Interview Meetings
Any company wanting to host a pre-interview meeting before its
interviewing date must submit a request at least two weeks in
advance. Pre-interview meetings are held on Monday and Tuesday
nights only. Once your reservation has been confirmed, you will
receive information for catering and AV equipment services. Orders
for these services must be received at least two weeks in advance
of your pre-interview meeting date. Please contact the Employer
Services and Development assistant for a current listing of AV
equipment, catering services, and their fees at 412-648-7129.
Prices are subject to change without notice.
Employers may also host a general pre-interview meeting open
to students at any time outside of the on-campus interviewing
season to market your company and job openings. Please call the
Employer Services and Development team for more information. Please
also see our Increase Your Visibility On Campus page for more
information on reaching students.

Successful Recruiting Tips
1. Compose a specific, realistic job description.
This is the No.1 factor affecting whether a student will decide
to sign up on a company's recruitment schedule. Students want
to know what a typical day will be like, what technology will
be available, and how their skills will be used. Compose the job
description carefully. Otherwise a top candidate may lose interest.
2. Distribute realistic recruiting literature.
Use pictures and stories of people doing their work. Stay away
from slick publications--they don't interest students.
3. Follow up when you say you will.
Two recruiting studies found that students perceived late follow-ups
very negatively. Give students a realistic idea of how long it
will take you to get back to them.
4. Use a personal touch.
This is probably your most effective tool. Use your FutureLinks
account to search the Resume Books for specific candidates. After
downloading the resumes, send letters, email, or call these candidates
to express interest, publicize your visit, or to invite them to
an interview.
5. Hold information sessions.
You can do so in the William Pitt Union or in a nearby hotel or
restaurant. Information sessions are a great opportunity to describe
your company and to meet students on an informal basis. In addition
to candidates already on your schedule, you will meet other interested,
qualified students. Use a personal touch to invite candidates
to your information session.
6. Cultivate faculty contacts.
Faculty members can be a good source for referrals and for detailed
information about an academic program. Pick up a copy of our faculty
contact list. You can talk to a faculty member by phone or over
lunch.
7. Conduct friendly interviews.
Students like professional, friendly, knowledgeable recruiters.
Do not be rigid, aloof, or cavalier. Many students will judge
your entire company by the person who interviews them.
8. Get involved with student organizations.
You can develop a high profile on campus this way. Often, volunteering
to be a speaker is the ticket to meeting a large number of students
in a short time period. You can find a list of these groups in
our student organizations directory.
9. Bring recent hires on campus with you.
Because students are looking for honest, straightforward talk,
new hires can be a strong asset in your recruiting effort. Have
them describe jobs and what it is like to work for your company.
New hires speaking at an information session can have a strong
impact.
10. Get to know the Office of Career Services.
Take a few minutes and talk with us. We are here to help you make
your trip a successful one. We can tell you about University of
Pittsburgh students and about our academic programs.
