Opportunities for Employer Involvement with
Cross Cultural Development Program
Overview of Emerging Leaders
Employers tell us that leadership skills often set excellent candidates apart from good candidates. These skills include the ability to work as a member of a team, to effectively resolve conflict, and to appreciate the contributions of different personalities. These are a few examples of the skills taught in Emerging Leaders.
Our goal is to design a program that would develop personal leadership skills that students can apply immediately to their daily lives as well as prepare them for any career path. We involved an expert in organizational development and leadership training to design a custom curriculum that could be easily replicated to support large numbers of participants and consistently provide a high quality learning experience.
We are proud to announce that as Emerging Leaders approaches its third year, over 1000 students have completed this 20 hour non-credit program and that we achieve a 96% completion rate. Benchmarking studies of student leadership programs indicate that Emerging Leaders is one of the largest of its kind in the country.
Become Involved in Emerging Leaders
Share your commitment to leadership with an up-and-coming group of talented students:
- Be a guest facilitator for the diversity roundtable session and lead a discussion on a topic such as women in leadership, diversity in teams, Cross Cultural leadership Styles, and understanding people with disabilities.
- Serve as a panelist at the program closing and discuss the significance of self-knowledge, integrity, accountability, or valuing others from your personal leadership perspective.
- Sponsor Emerging Leaders registration scholarships to make it feasible for any student to participate regardless of their ability to pay. As a sponsor, you can establish the criteria and parameters of the award.
- Furnish or equip the Personal Leadership Development Suite, stock the Leadership Resource Room with leadership publications, media, and materials, or supply the program portfolio for all participants for a year embossed with your logo.
- Support training and recognition of Emerging Leaders peer facilitators, graduates of the program who volunteer to assist and conduct sessions with current Emerging Leaders. Supply training materials, host a retreat, conduct an advanced leadership training seminar, sponsor attendance at a national student leadership conference, or award an honorarium or a University of Pittsburgh book store gift certificate to recognize their contribution.
- Sponsor an Emerging Leaders internship for a term. The intern assists the program coordinator with planning, marketing, record-keeping, and session preparation. Supply a uniform shirt with your logo to signify your organization’s sponsorship.
- Bring in a highly-recognized leadership speaker each term to continue to inspire and engage graduates of Emerging Leaders.
- Host a banquet or reception to recognize facilitators and peer facilitators. Sponsor deserts or light buffet for Emerging Leaders during one of their weekly program sessions.
